Mr. Leonard graduated cum laude from Tulane University Law School in 1981 and is a member of the Bars of the States of Louisiana (admitted 1981) and California (admitted 1983). He has been a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States since 1982, and is a member of the Association's Committee on Stevedores, Marine Terminals and Vessel Services. Mr. Leonard has served as lead counsel in jury and non-jury trials in state and federal courts, and has had a number of cases before the appellate courts of California, Louisiana and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Leonard is "A-V" rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Aleccia is the managing partner of Aleccia & Mitani. Mr. Aleccia graduated cum laude from the State University of New York at Oswego. He graduated from the South Texas College of Law. Mr. Aleccia is admitted to practice in California and Texas. He is also admitted to practice before the Northern, Central and Southern District Courts of the State of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Aleccia has tried over 200 federal trials. He has successfully defended cases at the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits. Over 30 of Mr. Aleccia’s federal cases have led to published decisions. Mr. Aleccia is considered one of the preeminent maritime attorneys specializing in the defense of federal Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, and Non-Appropriated Fund Instumentalities Act claims. Mr. Aleccia also handles federal OSHA, Cal/OSHA, labor issues under collective bargaining agreements, and general civil litigation.
ALECCIA & MITANI
Mr. Doeling graduated summa cum laude from Loyola Marymount University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Philosophy. He graduated Order of the Coif from Loyola Law School in 2012, where he served as a staffer and production editor on the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. While in law school, Mr. Doeling also served as an intern in the Hardcore Gang division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office and a judicial extern in the chambers of the Honorable Mark S. Wallace, United States Bankruptcy Court. He joined Aleccia & Mitani as an associate in January of 2013.
Ms. Kim graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She received her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 2009. While at Loyola Law School, Ms. Kim served on the International and Comparative Law Review as a staffer and Research Editor. Ms. Kim is admitted to practice law in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She specializes in the defense of claims falling under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, Non-Appropriated Fund Instumentalities Act, and general civil litigation.

Mr. Sabatella graduated from California Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and received his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, he was a California Western Public Service Honors Society Award recipient for his work with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, was invited to be a member of the negotiation and alternative dispute resolution team after receiving a distinguished advocate award for inter-school negotiation competition performance, and graded onto California Western’s Law Review. While in law school Mr. Sabatella also worked as a judicial extern to the Honorable Ruben B. Brooks, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, as a law clerk in a maritime personal injury firm, and as a post bar law clerk in a high powered personal injury firm in San Diego. After passing the bar Mr. Sabatella worked at a maritime personal injury firm for over a year prior to joining Aleccia & Mitani as an associate in 2018. Mr. Sabatella is admitted to practice law in the State of California, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Mitani graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics and a minor in English in 2001. She received her Juris Doctor cum laude/Order of the Coif from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 2004 and was admitted to the California Bar that same year. Ms. Mitani has been with the firm since 2004. Ms. Mitani's area of expertise is appellate litigation at the Benefits Review Board, the United States Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. She also specializes in the defense of claims falling under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, Non-Appropriated Fund Instumentalities Act, and general civil litigation.
Ms. Kubo graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Legal Studies. She received her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 2018 with a concentration in Corporate Law. She served as a staffer and Production Editor on the International and Comparative Law Review. While in law school, Ms. Kubo also served as a judicial extern in the chambers of the Honorable Bruce G. Iwasaki. Ms. Kubo studied abroad in Tokyo for her last semester of law school, where she was a corporate legal intern at a major international law firm. Ms. Kubo joined Aleccia & Mitani as a law clerk awaiting bar results and assists in the defense of claims falling under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and its extensions.
